Fashion trends are difficult to follow these days and it’s widely believed that they primarily exist to sell clothes. Some people believe that we shouldn’t follow them and that we should dress in what we like and feel comfortable in. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion.
While adults are usually not particularly concerned about the way they dress, most youngsters concede that fashion is pivotal to uphold their reputation among their peers and to fit into society. I believe that a middle ground exists between these diverging opinions. Hence, following fashion trends is paramount in certain situations but less so in others.
On one hand, our modern society has an unnecessary obsession towards looks. The media constantly depicts Hollywood stars and other international personalities wearing the latest creation from high-end labels. While these individuals can afford to change their wardrobe every season of the year, a normal citizen has, unfortunately, not been blessed with such wealth. Moreover, not everyone lives under the constant spotlight of the media, thus, there is no pressing need to dress extravagantly. The fact that we live in a democratic society also implies that we may dress as we please. Doing so will save us much hassle as we are less concerned about what others think of our personal look. Furthermore, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. As such, though our clothes may look nice to us, they may not be seen in the same manner by others. Therefore, there is little ground to wear outfits which conform to the latest fashion trend.
Nevertheless, it is paramount to follow a particular dressing code in certain circumstances. Chief among them is job interview or important work meetings. Indeed, first impression may determine our professional success. Wearing an outrageous or old fashioned business suit indicates a lack of respect and interest in the work concerned. In other cases, dressing as we deem fit may amount to indecency and offend people. Ostentatious tattoos or belly buttons often fall in this category.
To conclude, we should abide to a minimum dressing etiquette. Adopting fashion trend to some extent is necessary. However, blindly following the latest fashion may lead to a waste of money, time and effort.
