Recently, there has been a debate about the benefits of replacing the gasoline fuel in the United State by ethanol fuel. A group of scientists supports this idea which represented by the professor in the lecture, while another group argues these benefits as the author did in the text.
First of all, the professor argues the first point that has been raised by the author regarding the adding of the same amount of carbon dioxide by ethanol, as the gasoline did, by claiming that the amount of carbon dioxide which would be added to the atmosphere, would be consumed again by the new growing plants, to states it more clearly, the ethanol extract from plant, so to grow more plants they need carbon dioxide as a part of their growing process, so that will counteract the release of carbon dioxide from ethanol burning. indeed, by this point, the professor negates the first critic to the use of ethanol as fuel.
Second, the professor maintains the opposite side of view regarding the author concern about the reduce of animals food supplement, if the United State adopted the use of ethanol as a fuel, then, he explain the ability of produce the ethanol from Cellulose which is a part of the plant's cell wall, that the animal never used it as a food. Actually, the professor successfully cast the doubt about the reading passage assumption.
Finally, the lecturer contends that the ethanol would be able to compete in term of price with the gasoline, if the production of ethanol increase, in other word, if a lot of people will by the ethanol, the production will increase, then, the cost will drop, as a recent study said, that if the production of the ethanol will increase by three folds, the cost of production will drop 40%, in addition, the government support usually needed for any new product. So the author point will be practically unbelievable.
