The professor explains three arguments opposing the points stated in the reading passage about beneficiary of genetically modified trees.
First, the professor argues that natural trees are more prone to die in harsh conditions and they are vulnerable to new and unknown pests. For instance, if they infected by a new pest or experience adverse climate, all of the genetically modified trees will be damage because they are genetically uniformed. But some natural trees may survive during such conditions due to genetic diversity. Therefore, this advantage has repudiated by professor through mentioned explanations.
Second, the reading passage states that genetically modified trees have some economical advantages like more fruits and faster growth which differentiate them from natural trees. Nevertheless, the professor draws attention to hidden costs of genetically modified trees which farmers need to pay for seeds of trees every time they want to cultivate and they can not collect seeds and growth them. Thus, these hidden charges trigger professor to reject this idea.
Third and last, the professor states that genetically modified trees are more dangerous to environment due to the fact that they use most of resources and out compete the natural trees. So, by wiping out natural trees, genetically modified trees damage environment more than expectations. Hence, this claim has been declined by the professor either.
In summary, the professor has gone totally against the benefits presented in the reading passage. It states that genetically modified trees are not so beneficial because they are vulnerable to unknown pests and scarce climate conditions, can damage environment by wiping out natural trees and charging more cost to users.
