The pie chart illustrates the root causes of agriculture land which becomes less productive. Whereas, the table provides information about the reasons for degredation in the various lands of the world, namely; North America, Europe and Oceania during the 1990s.
Overall, the most prevalent reason for degradation land worldwide among the others was over-grazing and the Europe had the highest degraded land compared to other regions.
According to the pie chart, over-grazing was dominant cause that led to land degradation globally, accounted for virtually one-third percent. It was followed closely by deforestation, over-cultivation as well as other reasons which represented 30, 28 and 7 percent respectively. However, it is worth to take into account that there was the highest proportion of unproductive land in the Europe with 23%. The deforestation, as we can see, was the main cause for degradation for the Continent. The next region of non-productive land was Oceania with 13%, however the main contribution to this came from over-grazing. Conversely, the North-America showed the highest proportion of productive land with a merely 5%, which in turn was virtually caused by over-cultivation.
