The world’s population is increasing at a fast pace, which leads to the issue of creating more spaces for houses and offices to accommodate the increasing population. One of the suggested solutions is to replace the old buildings with new ones. Specifically, these old buildings include both historical buildings and old shopping malls. In this essay, I will discuss further on my notions of preserving and deconstructing old buildings.
To begin with, at the pace of medical advancement, the world’s population will continue to rise and eventually there will not be enough land for everyone. This has been an issue for smaller countries like Singapore and Hong Kong since a few decades ago. The solution they had was to build high-rise buildings. To use the land efficiently, old unwanted office buildings and shopping malls were taken down, nevertheless, preserving the historical buildings.
In addition, keeping the historical buildings is important for the future generations. Historical buildings are not only tourist attraction destinations, but also provide educational purposes for the young generations. For instance, Borobudur in Indonesia built by a Buddhist empire, is still standing today. It was learned in school history and well remembered by students for its beauty and unique designs. Similarly, many other historical buildings around the world are kept to allow young generations experience the beauty of history.
In conclusion, historical buildings are important for its educational purpose and are tourist destinations, hence should not be demolished. On the other hand, old unwanted buildings should be removed to build new high rise buildings.
