TPO 20 Integrated

Both the author and the lecturer are discussing about the “let it burn” policy for the forest fires. The author argues that this is a harmful policy for some ideas, while the lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. She thinks that it is not a bad idea to let the forest burn.

First of all, the author points out that burning causes damage to trees and other vegetation. The lecturer challenges this point. She says that when bigger and older trees burn, they will free up some space for new plants to grow up and this will also help the vegetation.

Secondly, the author contends that wildlife will be endangered as well and the food chains will be disrupted. The lecturer rebuts this argument. She believes that the new plants will attract some small insects that can be good food for small animals like rabbits and rats, and these animals will attract bigger ones. Therefore, the food chain will become better than before.

Finally, the author believes that burning has negative impacts on tourism and therefore the local economy. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that it cannot have bad influences. She believes that this will have a negative influence whenever it happens every year, but when this phenomenon happened just once; it will not decrease the number of tourists.
