Dear Sam,
I understood your problem regarding time management in your office and would like to suggest you some solutions. I know I can help you to come out from this situation as the same thing has happened to me before.
As you know I am working in a leading firm where the schedules are very tight. In the beginning I used to sit for long hours to complete my tasks because it was inevitable for me to leave those assignments in the middle. Gradually I realized that I was making mistakes in initiating my task responses. Firstly, too much attention was diverted to the work which are unnecessary. This work load consumes half of my day and then I was standing in the middle of nowhere to finish my main responsibilities. For this reasons, my boss was not very happy with my work as some assignment were being submitted on deadlines or even after. A colleague warned me that if I keep going with this flow then the management will not be happy with my performance regardless how long you sit in the office or how hard you work unless this work will be paid off to the company as a profit.
Therefore, I changed my way of working and immediately set my priorities regarding the working schedule and what actually my superiors require from me. Now, the important tasks always come first and petty work is being done later on. Now I am very satisfied with my work and so is my superior because it is finish right before the time. I also do not need to stay in the office after working hours.
I hope this suggestion will help you to manage your problem as well. If you require any other help please feel free to contact me anytime. I would be pleased to help you anything out with.
Regards,
Noor
