Car manufacturers and governments have been eagerly seeking a replacement for the automobile's main source of power, the internal-combustion engine. By far the most promising alternative source of energy for cars is the hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine, which uses hydrogen to create electricity that, in turn, powers the car. Fuel-cell engines have several advantages over internal-combustion engines and will probably soon replace them.

One of the main problems with the internal-combustion engine is that it relies on petroleum, either in the form of gasoline or diesel fuel. Petroleum is a finite resource; someday, we will run out of oil. The hydrogen needed for fuel-cell engines cannot easily be depleted. Hydrogen can be derived from various plentiful sources, including natural gas and even water. The fact that fuel-cell engines utilize easily available, renewable resources makes them particularly attractive.

Second, hydrogen-based fuel cells are attractive because they will solve many of the world's pollution problems. An unavoidable by-product of burning oil is carbon dioxide, and carbon dioxide harms the environment. On the other hand, the only byproduct of fuel-cell engines is water.

Third, fuel-cell engines will soon be economically competitive because people will spend less money to operate a fuel-cell engine than they will to operate an internal-combustion engine. This is true for one simple reason: a fuel-cell automobile is nearly twice as efficient in using its fuel as an automobile powered by an internal-combustion engine is. In other words, the fuel-cell powered car requires only halfthe fuel energy that the internal-combustion powered car does to go the same distance.

The main idead of both the reading and the lecture are about the advantages and disadvantages of hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine as a alernative source of power for cars over internal-combustion. The reading states that this alternative has several benefints in comparison to internal-combustion engine, and provides three reasons to prove its view. The professor, on the other hand, disagrees with the reading's point of view and refutes all reasons.

First of all, the reading passage explains that internal-combustion uses petroleum as a input feul; Furthermore, petroleum is a limited resource and will be exhusted in the near future. On the contrary, hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine use hydrogen, and hydrogen is a plentiful source. Therefore, fuel-cell engine is a reliable alternative. The professor, by contrast, claims that it is true that oil sources are finite, but hydrogen is not easily available and can not be used directly from water; moreover, it must obtain in a pure liquid sate that it is artificially as well as very hard. Furthurmore, producing and storing of hydrogen is not practical becasue the water should be cooled to -253 degree of cellecious, and also there is not enough technology to do so.

Secondly, the author of reading points out that the only byproduct of hydrogen-based fuel-cell is water, so the pollution problem will be solved by using this engine. The lecturer refutes this claim by saying that there is a level of purification in order to achieving pure hydrogen. In this procees we use a lot of oils and coals in factory; therefore, in this process factory will produce a huge amount of pollution.

Eventually, the passage illustrates that fuel-cell engine is a cost-effective alternative. On the contrary, the lecture casts doubt on this calims and added that we must manuefacture fuel-cell engine with platium to operate correctly and provide electricity current to run the car. The platium is a very expensive metal. Furthuremore, there is a cheap platuim, but using the cheaper one will not be helpfull and the procces will not be occured correctly.
