acting
The text is explaining “the Method” which is a method of acting to make the act of acting more realistic. The author brings some explanation of this method and explains how this method helps the actor to plays a more realistic role. But, the professor goes against the author and explains why the method is not the thing which actors must use.
First, the text explains that by “the Method”, actors can deeply go through the character they are playing and make the play more realistic. The text explains that actors must explore the subtext and discover how to structure emotion around conflicting emotions. On the other hand, the professor goes against this issue and says that, it is not the duty of actors to determine what they are playing, she says that, actors do not need to bring meaning to the subtext and they should just convey the message and do not need to discover and show the conflict of emotions.
Second, the text says that actors by using “The Method”, can go deep into the character and convey the message well, they need to analyze all specifics of a scene to play their role better. The professor refuses this point by saying that, actors depend on their own emotions even during acting, and sometimes they cannot go really deep into the character. She provides an example of a time when an actor must play a role of a murderer and says that in this fields actors cannot really go deep into the role.
Third, the text explains that in acting, there is no need for training of voice or movements and actors must live the part to make their acting realistic. The professor refutes this issue and says that, actors need lots of training and they need to be trained to be able to convey the message through their face, body or voice. The professor also says that, actors must learn about body language, their body movement or dance. Also, the professor adds this point that going too deep in a role is not good. for instance, she provides an example of an actor who did not sleep for two days to be able to play his role better.
