Essay topics:

Some people think that certain prisoners should be made to do unpaid community work instead of being put behind bars.

It has been controversial whether some offenders should be sentenced to do community services rather than being imprisoned. I completely agree with this perspective only if the crimes committed are small ones, and this essay will turn clear my support.
There are significant reasons to allow minor offenders to pay their sentences through a volunteer job. However, these criminals must have been judged and were seen as rarely threatful to society such as traffic offenders, shoplifters, and small robbers. Firstly, the process involving such jobs can role a rehabilitation paper in their lives. This experience in helping others can help them to develop the sense of community and acquire more responsibility. For instance, a traffic infractor could feel more responsible if he fed homeless people. Therefore, this kind of punishment may change their criminal minds and turn them into better humans.
Furthermore, not sending every criminal to the prison result in a relieve in the penitentiary system. Many correctional institutions are overcrowded, resulting in various internal problems to inmates and high expenditures to the government. Moreover, if the misdemeanor gets in contact with felonies, which occurs in prisons, the former probably would not become better individuals after being released, as they living experience in penitentiary may exacerbate their behavior. Consequently, sentencing petty criminals to lenient sentences such as community services, decrease the probability of forming more severe criminals.
In conclusion, although most sentenced offenders should be incarcerated, there are some who deserve a lenient sentence such as community service. I utterly agree with this assert, and I think this is highly productive in the rehabilitation process, and avoid overcrowding the penitentiary system.
