The two tables describe the prices were paid on Fairtrade- labelled coffee and bananas in five different nations in European from 1999 to 2004.
It is clear that during 5 years, money given for farmers growing coffee witnessed a significant increase in the first four countries while bananas grown in the last two nations saw a slight decline. It is notable that UK and Switzerland paid the largest price for coffee and bananas.
In 1999, nearly 2 millions of euros were given for coffee in Denmark, standing at No.1 compared to only 0.8 millions in Sweden. Britain and Switzerland had the equal amount of money used for coffee, in turns at 1.5,1 and 3 millions. By contrast, with bananas, exactly 15 millions were poured into bananas in Switzerland, which as 15 times as much as the figure in Belgium, just only 0,6. In England, Sweden and Denmark gave the same money for farmers growing bananas with the prices of 1,1.8 and 2 millions.
By 2004, the figure for coffee in UK witnessed a sharp rise to 20 millions, the opposite was true for coffee in Sweden which was paid only 1 millions. At the same time, coffee in the last three countries went up slowly, standing at 1.7, 2 and 6 millions of euros. Nevertheless, with bananas, Switzerland still saw a moderate upward tren by 32 millions, which was much bigger than that in United Kingdom and Belgium. The year 2004 also experienced a steady downward trend to 1 and 0.9 millions for this fruit.
