Implementation of a international fund to protect forest areas
The reading passage and the speaker most certainly disagree on one topic. The topic is related with the development on an international fund to help developing countries to implement useful conservational techniques in forest protection. The reading passage has three reasons to support this topic. However, the listening passage casts doubt on them.
First at all, the reading passage states that dispersing this funds to goverments, landowners and farmers will help agricultural areas from being developed into enviromentally damaging industries. This areas will be using as agricultural farms without interruption. On the other hand, the speaker explains that agriculture by itself is leading to deforestation. Farmers are in hurry harvesting more crops, increasing the use of modern agricultural practices. Increasing modern practices such as fertilizers and pesticides create run off waste and water pollution. The dispersion of funds is not a good idea.
In addition, the article discusses a second use of this protection funds. Funds could be use to develop the economies in villages and tribal located on these forest areas. However, the professor points out that this is an inadequate solution because these funds will go to forest owners instead or go to forest dwallers. There is no any warranty on how goverments would use these funds properly.
Finally, the reading passage explains that international fund would help goverments and people stablish protected forest areas as the best way to maintain forest diversity. The professor counter point this by stating that people would plant tress only for comercial use rather than to protect forest areas for loss of diversity.
In conclusion, by giving these three reasons the professor goes against the reading aticle.
