TPO- 02 Integrated essay. In many organizations, perhaps the best way to approach certain new projects is to assemble a group of people into a team. Having a team of people attack a project offers several advantages.
The reading and lecture are both about group of people doing projects together. The author of the reading believes that by creating this system it can have many advantages to the company. However, the lecturer casts doubts about the claims made in the article, saying that his arguments are inaccurate compared to facts.
First of all, the author points out that working together in a group can provide more creativity. This is because information and opinions will be discussed with different people and Ideas will be more creative outcome will result. The point is being challenged by the lecturer. He says that some member of the group don't cooperate in group discussions and they are referred as "free rider" In addition, projects don't move quickly because there are many process and steps like going under meetings and consensus to other member of the team and it takes a lot of time for an agreement to take place.
Secondly, the author contends that staff will not be shy to give their output with the group. The article notes that the every person in the group will be held responsible for every decisions they will make as a team and no single person will be held liable for a bad decision. However, the lecturer rebuts this argument. He suggests that if member of the group excel in their field and the recognition will not be awarded to that one person, but the credit will go to the whole team. Furthermore, he argues that staff are upset with this trend due to the company did not recognize their hard work.
Finally, the author states that it is very rewarding for members. The article notes that every one who do their job properly can "shine" and be given recognition. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that there are 2-3 individuals in the group that are more influential gets their voices heard the most. He puts forth the idea that if those persons believe that the idea would not work and they will spread the news to other members and the idea will be quickly not be pushed forward. In addition, If project move smoothly as planned and other members of the group wants to suggests for some improvement then this influential people ignored their inputs, but if the project did not work properly and all the members in the group are to be blamed.
