TPO 31 - Integrated Writing Task
In this set materials, the reading passage state that some lines which shown in the fossils of Sinosauroperyx did not evidence that Sinosauroperyx had feathers. On the other hand, the listening section brings into question the reading by providing different reasons (and examples).
First of all, the reading passage indicates that the line was formed by decomposition of skin into fibers; in contrast, the lecture opposes this view by mentioning that we have not been seeing this kind of composition so far in other fossils in the volcanic ash, and fossils which are discovered in volcanic ash always resemble the skin structure of the animal very good.
Secondly, the reading argues that these lines look like remains of frills than stay of feathers; conversely, what the lecturer believes is different. She points that frills and feathers have different chemical composition. Feathers have some important components such as protein and Beta_ keratin; nevertheless, the frills do not have Beta_keratin. So after examining the composition of the fossils show that this fossil has Beta_keratin which show it is the feather.
Finally, according to the reading location of this line is back of the fossil were located on the tail and backbone of the animals; therefore, dinosaurs could not use feathers for flying. However, the lecturer believes that these feathers were colourful, and dinosaurs used to attract the male. Considering peacock for instance. The peacock uses the colourful feather to attract the male. So the feathers of the dinosaur were orange and white, they also used to attract the male.
