The diagram below shows how a central heating system in a house works.
Sample how a central heating system in a house works with storage tanks, radiators, pump and boiler.
The illustrated sample figure shows how a central heating system works uses the principles of heat transfer to bring thermal energy from the heat radiator to the cooler parts of the house through a system of pipes and heat exchangers.
There are small tubes located on four sides of the house. Each of these transfers the cold water through pipes and brings them to the hot radiators where where the water inside them heats up through conduction and convection as it gets in touch with them. This flow is regulated by a pump which has a power source connected to it. The pump enables water to be lifted up to the boiler, which might either have oil or gas inside it. The boiler is connected with vertical pipes rising up to the storage tank where the hot water is stored temporarily.
The required water in different parts of the house is tapped from the storage tanks using a series of complicated horizontal and vertical pipes. There are control valves to prevent the back-flow of water or to stop the tank from over-flowing. The water is used either in the bathroom or in the kitchen, where the hot water again mixes with the cold water to create the perfect temperature as necessary for the people using the water.
