In most professions and academic fields, imagination is more important than knowledge.
Is imagination more important than knowledge? the author believe so on the foundation that we have innovated new devices by using imagination. I concede with the author in so far as some academic field need imagination more than others, but it is not necessarily the case in all fields.
First, by using imagination we would be more creative and achieve new thing in our lives. For example, in the past we did not believe that people can fly in the sky. However, Right brothers used their imaginations in aerospace field and invented first device. Without using the imagination in such that areas, we have not progressed.
Second, using imagination is professions and academic field help us to predict the future needs of community. For instance, if we estimate that population will increase in next decade, we can prepare ourselves for it and provide appropriate condition. Another good explanation for it is that imagination help us to have better future. Using new things in our lives creates new side effects that without imagination we can not avoid them.
Aside from foregoing two points noted above, in most profession and academic fields advantages of knowledge outweigh those of imagination. Without having knowledge in academic fields, we can not convert our imagination to reality. For instance, by using people imaginations we can consider many ways to avoid from earthquake effects. To implement many of those imagination in real life, we need sufficient knowledge in many fields. in short, knowledge is basis of imagination.
Another point that I want to mention is that in many professions you can perform specific work by knowing appropriate knowledge . However, sometimes using imagination can help us to find better or shorter ways. If you do not use your imagination, it does not affect the result. For example, if student does a experiment in laboratory, he/she has to know some important things about it. Such as materials used in experiment, the method he/she has to do. The student can use imagination to find more applicable method, but he/she can not do the experiment without knowing the basic knowledge about it.
To sum it up, although imagination help us to have more convenient way or given that in some professions knowledge has lower importance, if we contemplate all factors mentioned above, we may finally draw the conclusion that advantages of knowledge carry more weight than those of imagination. In other word, advantages of knowledge can be compensated by its disadvantages. That is why I think the author is wrong.
