TPO 31- the Integrated task
In the reading section, the author claims that the scientists find the fossil of a dinosaur in the volcanic ashes. Based on the evidence they find in this fossil, they state that this kind of dinosaur might not have the feather. However, the lecturer casts doubts on the reading points by presenting three reasons and examples.
First, the writer mentions that there is some decomposition of the skin of dinosaur in the fossils that might misinterpret to the feather. But, the professor demonstrates that there is not fiber evidence in other fossils that the scientists discover in the same site. Also, she adds that the volcanic ashes preserve the decomposition of the animal's skin in the fossils. Therefore, the evidence of fibers represents the dinosaur had the feather.
Secondly, the reading part mentions that there is some frills structure in dinosaur body that might mistakenly become interpreted as a feather structure because they are both grow from the same body part. Conversely, the professor explains that the remaining of the frill structure does not have specific protein named Beta Carotene; but, the response of the analyses on the remaining that the fossils contained represent a high volume of Beta carotene protein. Therefore, the remaining attributed to the feather that has the specific protein in its structure.
Finally, the author claims that if the fossils line represents the evidence of the feather in this dinosaur, it would be a useless structure in this animal. Because the animal could not use this structure for adjusting the temperature or flying. However, the professor rejects this notion by stating that there are many kinds of animals that have feather and use them for other functions. For instance, the birds that named Bicol uses its colorful feather for attracting the mate and displaying. Furthermore, based on the latest analyses of scientists the feathers of this dinosaur were orange and white to attract the mate.
