The chart illustrates an analysis of household owning and renting accommodation between 1918 to 2011.
They were both percentage of households in 1971. By the way, renting houses were much higher than those of owning before 1971. In 1918, rented accommodation was the highest among other years which was more 70%. However, it started to decrease from 1918 to 2001. It fell down by almost 30% in 2001. The rate of renting was risen in 2011.
On the other hand, owning accommodation was the least percentage in 1918. It was almost 20%, which had a big gap of renting, almost more than 50% in 1918. While it grew up substantially until 2001. After 1971, households in owned accommodation was much higher than rented accommodation. In 1981, owning got more 20% than renting. In 1991 and 2001, owned houses are almost similar to rented, which was in 1939 and 1953. But they had big gap in 2011, which households in rented was 35%, own that was nearly 65.
