A close friend is coming to visit you. S/he has asked you for advice for things to do in your hometown and the surrounding area.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
• Ask for more details about your friend’s plans
• Suggest some places to visit and things to do in your hometown
• Tell your friend about food or drink s/he should try during his/her stay
Dear Andrew,
Great to hear that you’re coming for a visit! I’m looking forward to showing you around.
How long are you planning to stay? Also, is there anything in particular you want to do while you’re here? By the way, if you haven’t booked a place to stay yet, you’re welcome to crash on my sofa.
You should definitely set aside some time to explore the city centre. Of course, you can visit the main sights like the Acropolis, the original Olympic Stadium and so on, but it’s also fun to wander around the little streets and alleys and just explore. There are lots of interesting shops and cafes dotted around.
Have you tried Greek food before? If not, you’re really in for a treat! The seafood is amazing, but it’s also worth trying the classic dishes like moussaka or youvetsi—a kind of beef stew with pasta. You can get some tasty wines here, too, and they’re generally pretty affordable.
Let me know your plans and I’ll see you soon!
Oli
