The government is spending a lot of money in improving Internet services. Why is this happening? Is it an appropriate way to spend public money?
Currently, a large amount of money has been poured into amelioration of Internet access by the government. Numerous reasons factor in this investment, and I do not consider it is an optimal use of government budget.
The first reason of upgrading broadband service is that advanced Internet service could meet rapidly increasing demand of remote and online education. Moving into 21st century, online education can overcome temporal and spatial difficulties to large extent, so it has become more and more prevalent. Students could take online courses wherever they are as long as they have access to the Internet, and employees working during the day could gain certificate online at night or whenever they are free. Thus, the government spends expenditure in improving cover areas of broadband to provide people more chances for further education.
Another reason is that better internet platform is more efficient for the government to public their information and hear opinions from residents. he government can only post information and hold hearings on site if internet accessibility is limited, and then deal with suggestions they gain by hands. The whole process is somehow time-consuming. However, by upgrading the Internet, the government can accelerate their processing time and give quick responses to public. It will certainly promote a more harmonious atmosphere for inhabitants to share their options.
Despite the above promise of Internet, there are more other important sectors that urgently need government’s subsidies. Quality of living, for instance, should be enhanced since various homeless have no shelters to live and some dwellings are in danger in extremely weather. Living, acting as the human being’s basic need, should be priority for the government to handle. Only when people could stay warm in winter and stay dry during raining, can they consider to have education online or to speak out their suggestions for building up improved communities.
In conclusion, many countries increase their budget in internet improvement for reasons, but government’s expenditure could be allocated more appropriately.
