TOEFL T P O 46 - Integrated Writing Task
According to the passage, There are many benefits in keeping patients' medical information in electronic databases. The lecture, however, doubts this idea and thinks that these benefits are uncertain.
First, the passage explains that recording information in electronic databases can help to save money. This concept is refuted by the lecture, which claims that doctors who adopt this system, also, use paper forms. They keep these forms for emergency situations and store them. Hence, this system cannot decrease costs.
Second, the passage argues that storing the information in this way can reduce the possibility of errors. The lecture, on the contrary, disagrees with this belief, suggesting that this method cannot decrease the errors that may be occurred by poor handwriting. Those doctors who adopted this method use pen and handwriting. Staff members might translate this handwriting incorrectly. As a result, the occurrence of mistakes and errors will not reduce.
Third, the author of the passage writes that the use of electronic records benefits researchers. The lecture, in contrast, states that researchers have difficulties when they want to access to all information. They face strict policies, and they have to follow this strict policy.
