The graph below shows in percentage terms the changing patterns of domestic access to modern technology in homes in the UK.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The chart demonstrates the rate of connections of four distinct modern devices in homes in the UK from 1996 to 2003. Generally, the overall trend was upward.
In 1996/1997, there were only CD player, home computer and mobile phone, with a large gap between CD player ranking first at 60 percent and access’ proportion of home computer and cell phone was nearly 30 percent and roughly 19 percent, respectively. Mobile phone witnessed a moderate increase before converging with home computer at nearly 35 percent. It is noticeable that Internet access was first introduced in 1998/99 with negligible connections.
Regard of the period of 1998/99 – 2002/03, the percentage of mobile phone outstripped home computer prior to increasing significantly to be the second place in the end, albeit irregularly. Similar to the former, internet access also went through a particular growth from 10 percent to approximately 43 percent in 2002/03 but it still remained the last position in the graph. It is clear that CD player kept gradual pace and it was always higher than the remains in over given periods.
