TPO31-task1
The reading claims that a fossil skeleton of a dinosaur included a pattern of fine lines surrounding the skeletal bones showing that they are feathers. then, the reading passage claims that critics have contrasted the idea that this kind of dinosaur had feathers and provides three reasons for supporting. The lecturer, meanwhile, refutes all the reasons and put forth the idea that these reasons are unconvincing.
First, the reading passage’s author declares that the fine lines might not show the feathers and they may display the structures which were formed after the animal’s death. The reading then mentions the fine lines may represent the skin which have decomposed into fibers. However, the professor disagrees and mentions that based on the observations of other fossils of nearing animals, these remains could be feathers. The professor base her claim on the fact that functional structures of the nearing animals’ fossils were found which were not decomposited. thereby, these remaining fossils are definitely the feathers.
Second, while the reading passage declares that it is difficult to find out the exact part of the animal by fine lines and the remnant parts could be the frills rather than the feathers, the lecturer refutes this claim by saying that there is an important chemical difference between feathers and frills. The professor strongly says that the composition containing protein and baby cratine represents the definite proof for being a feather of this kind.
Finally, in contrast to reading passage claiming that the feathers are located along the backbone and tail of the animal and also most of the animals use them for flying or regulating the internal temperature, the lecturer strongly states that the feathers are possibly used by the dinosaurs for attracting the mates. then, the professor says that this kind of feathers are located in the backbone of the animal and this could be the reason. also, professor states that based on the analysis they made on the feathers, they are colorful in orange and white, thereby the feathers were used for displaying to the mates.
