smart cars
Both the author and the lecturer discuss whether smarts cars promise to provide better condition rather than the conventional cars or not. The passage claims that smart cars make driving safer, quicker, and less expensive. The professor, on the other hand, completely rejects whatever mention in the reading through citing three reasons.
First, both the author and the professor talk about the rate of accidents. According to the passage, smart cars enjoy some sensors that provide extremely accurate information about surroundings. In addition, smart cars have automatic programs that control braking and turning to avoid collision. The lecturer, nevertheless, rejects author's view and illustrates the idea that smart cars are very close together in high speeds, so they cause worse accident rather than conventional cars.
Second of all, both the reading and the lecture discuss the smart car's effect on traffic problems. The author argues that the increased speed of smart cars will be a great benefit and decrease the hours of people's commute. However, the professor refutes this, saying that easier driving provided by smart cars encourage people to use them that it means additional cars commute in highways. Therefore, added cars do not reduce commuting time.
Eventually, the passage and the lecturer address the subject of costs. The passage goes on to mention that smart cars move in the most direct routes, so they reduce the cost of repairs and replacement parts. In contrast, the professor points out that smart cars have several lateral cost such as replacement of sensors which conventional cars do not have. In addition, if smart cars break down their repair cost are very expensive than conventional cars.
