The graph and table below give information on water use worldwide and water consumption in two different countries.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The graph illustrates global water usage over 100 years (from 1900-2000 on a 10 year interval) in three sectors namely agriculture, industrial and domestic. The table gives information on annual water consumption of 2000 in Brazil and Congo.
In the graph, the three sectors follow a same consistent increasing trend and of them agriculture consumes water with a higher margin than other two sectors. Both agriculture and industrial use curve rises sharply after 1950 whereas domestic usage steeps up comparatively slowly. From the table, we can compare water usage per population between the two mentioned countries.
In 2000, agricultural activities around the globe uses 3000 km3 water which is approximately 3 times higher than industrial usage and 10 times higher than domestic usage. There was a less demand of water at the very beginning of the twentieth century for industrial and domestic purposes which gradually increases to a level of 1000 km3 at the end for industrial use while agriculture remains in the upper level of the graph throughout the century.
The table compares water consumption between Brazil and Congo based on population and area. In Brazil, water usage per million of people is more than 2 m3/million in contrast this ration is slightly higher than 1 m3/million of people in Congo. On the other hand, the ratio of water volume to land area is approximately 5 times greater for Congo than Brazil.
