The article states that ethanol is not a great idea as a new source of energy instead of gasoline, and provides three reasons for support. however, the professor explains that ethanol is an amazing fuel to think about, and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the article claims that ethanol will also contribute to global warming since it distributes carbon dioxide into the environment when it is burned. The professor opposes this point by saying that it is true that carbon dioxide is a byproduct of burning ethanol but its source is from plants like corn and the increase of cultivating it to cover markets need leads to the presence of more plants available for reabsorbing carbon dioxide for there process of growing.
Second, the article says that more plants will be used for fuel generation at the expense of benefit animals as source of food. The professor refutes this point by explaining that there are other plants that contain cellulose in there cell walls which are uneatable by animals that can be used instead of corns.
Third, the article mentions that taxes subsides by the government help ethanol producers in there work and by discontinuing this support the price of ethanol will increase. however, the professor states that the increased need for ethanol will increase production so pricing will decrease, for example increasing production by three times decreases the price forty percent.
In conclusion, although the reading and the lecture are both about ethanol fuel, the points made in the reading are effectively challenged by the lecturer.
