productivity and rewards
The reading and the lecture are both about the relation between productivity and rewards. While the author of the reading states that rewards would encourage the workers to work hard, so the productivity would increas, the lecturer casts doubt in each of the arguments presented by the reading.
To begin with, the author of the reading argues that any kind of reward would improve the attitude of the employee. The article mentions that rewards should be linked with the performance, the worker who performs better deserves to be rewarded. This specific argument is challenged by th lecturer. He claims that employees want to be respected for their work. Moreover, he says that there are no studies shows the link between rewarding and increasing productivity. In contrast, he argues that studies suggest that there is a coloration between a rewarding system and reducing productivity.
Secondly, the writer suggests that rewards with high value for the employee, and goals that could be achieved would encourage the worker to work hard to reach these targets and get the reward that meaningful for him. However, the professor rebuts that by explaining that employees would feel that they are under control and punish and feel that they are manipulated by their manegers, which would affect negatively the relationship between managers and employees. This bad relationship would make a negative impact on the work environment.
