Some observers say that police officers should be recruited from the communities where they work, so that they have local knowledge. Other people say that this is unnecessary, or even undesirable. Where do you stand on this debate? Is local knowledge essential in modern policing?

Every society needs an efficient, trustworthy police officers for ensuring better safety to the locality. It is observed by some that, Police ought to be recruited from the local communities because they have the potentiality to explore their local knowledge, and other people oppose the idea .Regarding police should be locally hired ,there is a case to be made on both sides of the debate.

After evaluation of observers thinking, Even if those people who support to recruit local officers they should be aware of that the local officers have to understand about the minutiae of the locality. Namely, A particular communities have certain frictions and grievance in political, religious or individual facts, and in such situation, police needs to show some sensitivity while they face the situation . Moreover, Locally recruited police officials get relevant evidence from the informant thus helps them not only informative but also proactive to handle crime and offences. Needless to say, locally employed police gets stronger evidence at trials, higher conviction rates and a deterrent to crime through sentencing, imprisonment, fines or community service .

On the other hand, Although officers from the community may in fact share some of the tendencies of the people, it is might be risky. For example, in countries such as Mexico, we see a high incidence of corruption among the local business and government community doing in front of the police. A second objection is that local sensitivity may lead to the police failing to enforce legislation and laws fully against the offenders. Finally, we must ascertain that police officers should have transferable skills, such as lateral thinking and investigative ability, and police are transcended their background or the environment in comparison with their personal interest.

To sum up, After comparing all sides of advantage and shortcomings against the debate, it seems to me that local knowledge is not absolutely essential for the police, whose skills should be effective in any context. Indeed, Had concern authority employed police on the basis of their transferable skills ,society might have get benefited through their sportive initiative.
