The reading discusses that the Torreta Taxifoha population is decreasing and, in the near future, they would extinct. Hence, the author listed three solutions to prevent this decline. However, the lecturer finds all the reasons dubious and presents some evidence to refute all of them.
First, the author mentioned that they can replant Torreya in the same area that it lived for a long time. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this solution and asserts that the area is strongly affected by climate change. As global warming increases, the wet line will decrease and gets dryer. Thus, it could not survive in this conditional environment.
In addition, the author points out to move them into a different location, to grow successfully in that area like forests further north. On the contrary, the speaker casts doubt on this issue by standing that relocation make has a negative effect on the environment. For example, the Black Lokes tree spread quickly in the new location and it caused to die many other trees and vegetation in that place. Therefore, it could be a danger for other trees
Last but not least, the reading passage proposes to protect them in research centers. it could firmly ensure the continued survival of them. On the other hand, in contradiction to the reading passage, the lecturer claims that it is not a perfect solution because the population of Torreya is not able to resist diseases. For successful movement, the population must be large and genetically diverse. Though their population is small and genetically not various.
