Integrated Writing Task
The lecture and the reading passage are both about archaeology in the United Kingdom. The author of the passage believes that there are three main reasons why scientific research in this field was facing problems. The lecturer, casts doubts on the claims made on the passage. He thinks that these arguments are not convincing.
First and foremost, the writer points out that a lot of artifacts are lost because of the construction projects. In recent years the numbers of buildings were increased, as a result of high population. The lecturer challenged this point. she says that with the development of a new plan, any construction would not start before all the proper examination completed. Furthermore, she argues that if all steps of the plan are not applied, then people who were involved had to turn back and complete them. Therefore, under these rules, the archaeological findings would be preserved.
The second argument the author gives is that the lack of financial support is another reason why the archaeology is behind in its work. However, the lecturer contradicts this point. she said that the financial support would be available. The construction companies would give the funds for these research , so archaeologists would be able to excavate further.
Finally, the author states that there is very difficult to pursue the career of archaeology. people who liked this profession tended to work for free because the opportunities were limited. The lecturer on the other hand, points out that with the new government plan, the opportunities for these jobs are available at all stages of the process. Therefore, people who are interested in this field, would have a lot of opportunities. In addition, because of this, today the number of people who are pursuing this career have drastically increased.
