The bar chart illustrates the proportion of households owned cars in a particular European nation from 1971 to 2001.
Looking at the graph, it is immediately obvious that more and more households had cars, which mean that the number of families without cars decreased. Additionally, car ownership in this country rose over the period shown.
In 1971, almost half of the residents in this area did not possess a car, while about 35% of households owned 1 car and around 16% of families controlled 2 or more cars. Ten years later, the figures for those with no car or 1 car dropped to about 41% and approximately 30% respectively. Meanwhile, the quantity of houses having 2 or more motorcars nearly doubled compared to the original, at roughly 27%.
1991 witnessed a spike in the percentage of citizens kept 1 car, peaking at over 45%, whilst the remaining both data fell. Over the one decade ensuing, the figure for people who possed no car, or 2 or more cars, was almost equal, at just under 30%, while the amount of households hold 1 car dipped slightly to around 44% in 2001.
