The sustenance and development of nations using technology are the most complex & important tasks. It is now more than ever that countries require specialists who can provide technological solutions to dismantle complex socio-economic and environmental problems. My long-term goal would be to become this specialist which would require me to learn various algorithms, have foresight on scalability, become an expert in designing complex systems and finally understand the need to include Artificial Intelligence into the mix. To achieve this feat, I wish to pursue a graduate program in Informatics from your esteemed University.
In high school, I had a strong inclination towards mathematics and computer science which laid the necessary groundwork for actively completing higher levels of my education. It was also during this time I had a natural predilection towards football and subsequently, with practice, I was representing the school and private clubs at various Football tournaments. The game helped me understand the power of teamwork, communication & comradery.
During my undergrad, the groundwork before proved to be fruitful now. It was during these 4 years, I was able to enhance my problem-solving skills, understand computer organization and networking in-depth, realize the need for data structures while coding, learn complex algorithms and understand how data can be stored. With proper guidance from teachers and friends, I had taken elective courses that would suit my career which include Multimedia Computing, Advanced Java, Cloud Computing, Neural Networks, and cybersecurity. Later on, as our final year project, we as a team of 3 were able to develop a Healthcare related android application for the university. Developing this application provided us with exposure to Android studio, firebase, and interactions with external APIs. Along with my course study, I was able to participate in Inter-College Football Tournaments by representing the College team. Apart from my passion for this field and football, I was involved in other extra-curricular activities like being part of a student body club called Computer Society Of India wherein I helped organize various events like gaming events, hackathon and so on. Finally, I was also part of a Non-Profit Organization called Project Reach Out wherein I participated in collecting funds to conduct events that would, in turn, raise funds to help physically and mentally challenged kids. Completing my education in two countries namely India & Oman allowed me to understand how to adjust with new people and respect different cultures and traditions. Thus helping me grow as a person, become a better problem solver and a team player.
During my internship at a financial technology company called PerkFInance wherein as a team of 2, we developed a customer acquisition website using the Django framework. By doing so, we had learned Django Framework, understand Front-End Development with Bootstrap, learn the Software development lifecycle and learn to host the website on AWS.
During my professional career at a Financial Exchange Company called CME Group, most of my time went into learning .Net framework and core, understanding their complex business on financial exchanges and finally working on their trading platform called CME-DIRECT. The company has given me sufficient exposure to different technologies such as Angular 7, Kubernetes & dockers, Splunk, etc. Later on, as a hobby after work, I had built a ChatBot in Whatsapp using Twilio Whatsapp API and Django Framework. Later, to advance my Android development skills, I had built an application to keep track of events and have a personalized profile of each user. Most recently I had built a dedicated website for a Social Service related Organization using .Net core Razor pages which enhanced my web development skills.
The program offers courses on algorithms, design thinking, understanding complex systems, and various courses that entail artificial intelligence. The curriculum also contains courses on topics like autonomous driving and augmented reality which appeals to me. By gaining in-depth knowledge of these different courses, I would be able to achieve my long term goals. My expectations from the program would be to meet and collaborate with like-minded individuals, upgrade my expertise in Application development, and be part of a research cluster that aligns with my goals. One such cluster is - ‘Algorithmic Economics & Operations Research’ which has a clear and sound description making it all the more compelling to hopefully join it one day.
My short term goal is to work as a Software engineer at an interesting startup or a well-renowned company like Google or Apple. After 5 years of working on the technical aspects, I would mostly do an MBA to understand strategic planning and people management. By having these two degrees it would further cement my long term goal to be a specialist who provides solutions to nations on many socio-economic problems. Whilst the journey is long and demanding, with the proper guidance, I would certainly give my best to reach it.
In conclusion, the two-year roadmap is to be adventurous and exciting which would entail setting up a new student life in Germany, learning new technologies, learning German and building an international network. Whilst the primary requirement for the above would be persistence and perseverance, with the support of my family, friends, and colleagues I will surely give it my best. Thus, I request the university to kindly consider my application for the Master’s Program in Informatics.
