Children who are brought up in families that do not have large amounts of money are better prepared to deal with problems of adult life than children brought up by wealthy parents.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Children raised in well off families are thought to be inferior in dealing with problems that they encounter in their adult life. I completely agree with this viewpoint for two main reasons.
Firstly, although wealthier children may have access to quality education and better jobs with the social connections of their parents, it is poorer children’s diligence that gets them these coveted spots. Many world-class universities, such as Cambridge and Harvard, offer fully-funded scholarships for less wealthy applicants if they qualify. This means that poorer children have to study hard to achieve their aims and they are good at this as they have been exposed to hardships and understand the value of hard work better than their peers. Having studied in these universities, both groups of children will have even chances for employment in the later stages of their lives.
Secondly, children with financially-disadvantaged backgrounds grow up to be more independent adults having faced difficulties from a young age. They sometimes have no choice but to work to meet their financial needs. A friend of mine, for example, always dreamt of riding a bicycle, but due to familial circumstances he could not afford to buy one nor his parents. Consequently, he had to work at the age of 14 in a theme park to realize his goal. In the end, these people will be much ready for life, unlike their wealthy peers, because they develop life skills on their own and solve their problems independently.
In conclusion, not only are children from poorer backgrounds are more diligent, but also more independent than well off children. Therefore, I entirely agree they are better prepared to cope with life problems.
