tpo 54 lake salinity
Some controversy has been generated about whether or not the lake's salinity would killed fish and bird populations. The reading states that three are three possible stratgies that people could use to stop save these animals' population by reducing the lakes' salinity. The speaker, however, argues that none of these points are actually practicle or realistic.
The first point of dispute is if the extracting salt by using desalination facilities could be beneficial. The lecturer explains that pumping water to the lakes leads to the evaporation of water. Therefore, the slat and other toxic chemical matrials will left behind such as Selinum. Selinum is a very dengerous element, if it is speard by wind on to the atmosphere, and people breath it in, it might cause a serious health issues. By contrast, the writer is simply content to accept that pumping water in could lead to serious health issues.
The second controversial issue is about if dilution of the lakes' salt by using ocean's water could be adventageous. According to the professor, it is true that ocean water could help in reduce the salinity. However, using pipelines and canals to deliver the water from ocean could be exobitant expecially if the need to conduct it from really far places. In addition, the professor adds that the closest place to is about 100 Kilometer away from the lake. In spite of that interestingly, the author believes that using pipeline and canlas is an effective way to readuce the lakes salinity.
The final point of disput is the question of if buliding dividing walls to sperate the water into sections will work. The speaker argues that constructiong walls is not a good idea. This is because some gelogical effects could destroy these walls especially the area of frequent and intens of natural disaster such as erthquick. Thus, these events could destroy the walls and lead the water of low salinity mix with water of high salinity. Despite all these possible rationale, the writer ignores all these potenial explanations.
