Pluto should be considered a planet or not.
In the reading passage it is stated that Pluto is no longer considered a separate planet because it does not fulfill the recent criteria for classification of an astronomical object into a planet. The lecturer argues that the the new definition is not unanimously accepted and endorsed by the astronomers around the world.
For the first thing, the new classification system is not globally adopted by all astronomers. It is because of the simple fact that some of them believes any orbiting object in the solar system which is not the moon of another plant should be considered as a planet itself. This undermines the strict criteria introduced by the passage as a universal rule.
Secondly, the professor argues that the classification should be broadened to include any orbiting bodies around the sun that have enough gravitational pull. Therefore, the complexity of our solar system will be reflected by the diversity of spatial bodies that could be named as planets. This challenges the the passage that prefer to narrow down the definition of a planet.
Finally, introducing Pluto as a dwarf plant leads to a lot of confusion. School education, museum collections, and a huge pile of previously published texts should be corrected accordingly. Therefore, there is no firm agreement upon the new name, which seriously challenges the passage.
