The table gives information about the percentage of earnings British people by age and gender spend on food, electronic equipment, music and videos in 1998.
Overall, adults spent the most money on food, but the least on videos, whereas the largest amount of children expenditure consisted of music, but least money was spent on food. Women and men both spent the biggest part of their income on food. On the other hand, boys and girls’ favorite item to buy was music.
With regard of adults’ expenditure, one quarter of their income was spent on food in 1998, but in fact they spent only 5% on videos. Moreover, about 40% and 14% of women and men’s expenditure comprised of food with music being in second place with 5% for women and electronic equipment for men with 10%.
As for money spent by children, there was opposite trend, food being the item on which they spent the least amount of money at 10% for both genders. Approximately 40% of their expenditure consisted of music for both, boys and girls. Boys spent 18% of their money on electronic equipment and videos, whereas girls 5% and 17%, respectively.
