You have just received an email from your English friend Eileen, now in Hanoi to do a course in Vietnamese.
Hi,
After saying goodbye, I felt so lonely and I still do although Hanoi is a very exciting and busy city! How are you? Are you doing well in your study?
To be honest, I've made slow progress in my Vietnamese! Could you tell me how to improve my speaking ability? Also, where can I get some books and other materials to help with my study? You know, I'll do my best so that I can communicate with Vietnamese in a few months' time.
Love,
Eileen

Dear Eileen,
I'm so happy to hear from you! I'm a little bit under the weather since Vietnam is undergoing its intense monsoon season, and unfortunately, I got caught in a torrential rainstorm yesterday. I've passed my second-term exam recently with flying colors, especially in Maths and English, which makes me feel cheerful.
I'm really sorry to hear that you've been struggling to study Vietnamese. Be more amiable, girl! You should talk to the other mates in your course and team up to learn together. What's more, be more self-confident when you have to present in front of class. I know you have an inferiority complex about you speaking ability, but by this way the teachers can give you instructions and advice to improve your skills.
Do you remember the Central Library of Hanoi, the place we visited last year? You can go there and borrow some books about Vietnamese novels to enhance your vocabulary. Or you can go to the Apple bookstore, where you can buy a wide variety of stationery as well as many books at bargain prices to support your study.
Speak to you soon,
Hao.
