protect forests and keep the deforestation process in check
The reading passage suggests three methods in order to protect forests and keep the deforestation process in check. Nevertheless, the lecturer finds the suggestions flawed. He further casts doubt on the suggestions and refutes them all with thorough explanations.
First, the author puts forth the idea that supporting forest agriculture can positively affect the condition of forests. The professor, however, dismisses this idea. He states that forest agriculture is itself a force against forests, for they make use of modern practices like utilizing ferilizers and pesitcides. Moreover, forest agriculture adds waste material and pollution to the environment. As a result it is not a good idea to cease deforestation.
Furthermore, the passage contends that aiding the habitants of villages and communities located in forests with finance can help keep the forests, because if so, they will resist converting the forest land into industialized sites. In contrast, the professor finds this idea dubuous. He mentions that these funds will eventually go to the forest owners rather that villagers. Consequently, the residents of forest lands will not benefit the fund and will not resist the pressure. So this idea will not appropriately help protect the forests.
Finally, the passage asserts that using governmental funds to establish protected forest areas is the best measure against deforestation. However, the lecturer is not in favor of this idea. He states that such intentionally planted trees will be for commercial purposes, so it does not anything to do with the goal of the funding. As a result he opposes this idea profoundly.
