Many efforts have been made by countries to address problems concerning the environment, but the situation has not improved. What are the possible reasons and results of this situation?
Various solutions have been implemented by the government around the world to tackle environmental problems, but the improvements are hardly observed. In my opinion, this could be attributed to the awareness of the public, and there are several consequences that may potentially put humankind at the edge of extinction.
I believe that the reason why efforts made by countries become meaningless may lie in public behavior. First of all, it is clear that due to their convenience and versatility, single-use and plastic bags are irreplaceable products in some services and companies, which accidentally discourage the public from changing their habit to other alternative eco-friendly products. Such a practice makes awareness-raising campaigns conducted by the government seem to be futile because there is a continued rise in the amount of waste, which leads to environmental pollution on a large scale. Secondly, despite the enormous investment into improving public transportation, the preference of using private vehicles is still existing, owing to the time reduction while commuting. As a result, the government’s effort becomes meaningless when it comes to reducing exhaust fumes from personal means.
Therefore, because of the aforementioned solutions have yet to solve the problems related to the environment, a wide range of consequences has been observed. One of the most frequently cited results is that it could be a waste of state budget to invest in solving these alarming issues without receiving any visible changes. This is because this avenue might be used more wisely to invest in other areas initially such as education and economy, which are profitable in the long run. Also, if the environmental problems are unsolved, human beings may encounter higher incidences of detrimental consequences. Climate change, for example, has rendered many people homeless and underprivileged and gives rise to an increase in illegal migration and climate refugees.
In conclusion, I would like to reiterate that the unchangeable behavior of the public may be the main reason making the government’s effort useless. At the same time, humankind may face some serious consequences such as global warming, if such a trend continues to exist.
