The chart below gives information about car ownership in the UK from 1975 to 2005.
The line graph illustrates how many people used motor cars in the UK between 1975 to 2005.
Looking at the chart, it is immediately obvious that the proportion of the population who owned two or three cars rose while the opposite was true for those who had no car. Additionally, having one car was unchanged during the period shown.
In 1975, the percentage of people having one automobile in their house was 45% whilst people with no car was slightly lower, at roughly 43%. These figures both declined over the following decade, to around 37% for people owning one car and 25% for those with no car. In the last year of the survey (2005), the number of citizens who owned a car recovered back compared with the original year whereas the percentage of dwellers with no car continued to decrease to about 23% at the same time.
The number of England owned 2-3 cars occupied just about 7% and 4% of the total population of England, respectively. These figures continually increased over the period shown, reaching approximately 19% for inhabitants with 2 cars and nearly 10% for residents with 3 cars in 2005.
