Question: Most scientists agree that the world’s climate has now reached its critical threshold. What are the reasons for this and what could be its consequences?
Critical Threshold of the World’s Climate
.
Nowadays, the climate in the world has fluctuated over time between hotter and cooler. Most scientists think that it is time for the world’s climate to reach a critical threshold. In my opinion, I agree with this notion and I will give the reasons and consequences about this.
First of all, natural factors are one of the causes of the critical threshold of the world's climate. In recent times, there have been many volcanic eruptions. Volcanoes release clouds of dust and ash that block the sun, resulting in a temporary cooling effect. In addition, volcanoes often emit sulphur dioxide (SO2) and also release greenhouse gases such as CO2 into the atmosphere. This has led to periods of global warming due to the well-known greenhouse effect which led to global temperature increase. Consequently, the climate will fluctuate, people will lose their land to live which will make life difficult, and the economy will not develop.
The critical threshold of the world’s climate is mainly the consequence of the anthropogenic production of greenhouse gases. The most abundant of the gases is carbon dioxide, which is produced by burning fossil fuels. When CO2 enters the atmosphere, these gases trap heat, causing the Earth to become warmer. This has led to temperatures being higher, and water increasing in volume in a process. Warmer temperatures also cause polar ice caps and high-latitude glaciers to melt which leads to sea level rise. For this reason, the entire island country may become submerged, many species may lose their habitable habitat.
To sum up, it is time for the world’s climate to reach a critical threshold. Earth’s life is endangered. Therefore, we must act immediately, and take practical measures to protect the earth as well as to protect our own lives.
