The table below shows the partition of people over 15 in selected sports and physical recreation activities by gender in Australia during the period 2011-12. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The given table illustrates the proportions of participants aged over 15 in 11 categories of selected sports and physical recreations by gender, during the period 2011-12 in Australia.

Overall, there are some considerable variances in the involvement of males and females in the selection of exercises.

As can be seen from the table, walking has the highest number of participation which is 46,9%, including 16,5% and 30,4% from men and women respectively, nearly twice as many women participants as men. Followed by fitness/gym with the figure being significantly lower (34,2%), approximately 12,7%, similarly, it has higher involvement of females (19,1%) than males (15,1%). According to the total numbers of participants in the selected list, it is clear that females engage in more than males with the figures being 79,4% and 77,6% respectively, at around 1,8%.

Interestingly, it is represented that men joined the majority of activities except for netball and yoga, whereas for women which is golf, football and basketball. Therefore, females tend to be interested to engage in those physical recreations more. As a result, proportionally, males were more likely to take part in sporting activities. For instance, in term of cycling/BMXing, the number of men (9,8%) is substantially higher than women (5,4%), which is nearly double.
