Some people believe that the responsibility to prevent global environmental damage is on politicians while others think it is the responsibility of individuals. Discuss both viewpoints and give your opinion?
With the ever growing population, the environment has been constantly desecrated by the ongoing human activities, thus a section of society deems that it is the duty of the representatives to safeguard the ecosystem in order to obstruct the destruction worldwide whilst others believe that citizens are responsible for it. I, hereby partially agree with the given notion and will intently explore both the aspects in the upcoming paragraphs before reaching the final verdict.
To commence with, public servants have the power to create and enforce regulations and policies that can have a significant impact on environmental protection. To substantiate it further, they can establish laws that limit emissions, promote renewable energy, and control industrial practices that harm the environment. Apart from this, lawmakers participate in international agreements such as the Paris Agreement, where they make commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address climate change on a global scale. Furthermore, government run agencies control funding for environmental research, conservation efforts, and sustainable infrastructure. They can allocate such resources to support initiatives that benefit the environment. For instance, the European Union's efforts to combat climate change include policies such as the Green Deal, which aims to make Europe the world's first climate-neutral continent by 2050.
On the contrary, individual consumption patterns directly affect demand for goods and services, which can drive environmentally damaging practices. Therefore, by choosing sustainable products and supporting eco-friendly companies, people can influence market dynamics. Moreover, masses can adopt more environmentally friendly behaviors in their daily lives, such as reducing energy consumption, conserving water, using public transportation, and practicing waste reduction. In addition to it, the combined efforts of the citizens can create a groundswell (growth of a strong feeling) of demand for sustainable practices, which can pressure businesses and governments to prioritize environmental concerns.
To conclude, I aver that though political leaders can enact laws and launch programs to enhance public awareness. Yet, the outcome of eco-friendly alternatives will not be effective without the participation of every single person.
