The chart shows a comparison of the number of people in a household in the UK in the years 1981 and 2001.
Overall, a 2-person household remained the most popular among the people in the UK whereas not many people enjoyed sharing a home with more than 5 people in 1981 and 2001.
In 2981, around 31% of people in the UK reported sharing a house with another person, making this the most favorite choice. This percentage even rose further by 3% to 34% in 2001, maintaining its place in the top tier.
The rate of 3-person households in 1981 was seen at 20%, ranking in the second place. However in 2001, this number dropped to 17%. In comparison, while only 17% of people in the UK said that they preferred to live alone in 2981, this rate rose significantly by 9% to reach 26% in 2001.
The proportion of 4-person, 5-person and 6-person households in 1981 was recorded at 18%, 8% and 6% respectively. After 20 years, these choices remained unpopular as the numbers experienced a slight drop to 15%, 6% and 2%, respectively.
