In some countries young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting universities studies. Discuss the advantages for young people who decide to do this.
Some people argue that after finishing high school, young people should have an experience in travelling or working before starting study in university. For many reasons, this statement is true. Having a job after graduate from high school, young people will discover what work live is. They will be familiar with work habit and learn about time management as well. Furhan, my cousin, is work in publishing company for a year before study in university. As a result, now he can handle many job at the same time, and get high rank while study journalism in university. It is the work experience, which bring him success in study and career.
However, for some young who did not able to split their focus and their time, work in a year before study in university is not suggested. In my own experience, handle a job before starting study in formal institution such as university is drove me to disorientation. The hardest problem is chose to stay in career or continue study in university.
Same as work, for younger, travel in a year before starting university is another option. With travelling experience, visit many places and meet with new peoples, give them a chance to learn practically about communication skill. However, enjoyable in travelling probably distract them from their main purpose. Some parents whose children try to travelling after high school, report that their children’s motivation to continue study in university is lower than before.
Although travel or work experience in a year after high school is important to adolescent, they have to notice first about their study purpose.
