IELTS Writing Task 2: high revenue is what the professional players deserve?

When it comes to entertainment and refreshment, sports has been playing a significant role since the primitive society. Nowadays, a world-famous professional in sports industry can earn much higher than people in other industries. While some believe that high revenue is what the professional players deserve, some concern that the unfair income between sports professionals and positions in other industries may cause serious social problems. The issue of income inequity will be discussed in this essay from different perspectives.

The supporters claim that all successful professional players undergoes intensive training and unbelievable sufferings which normal citizens cannot imagine, so it is quite fair for them to receive a higher wage than the others. Indeed, according to the statistics the Olympic gold medal winners need to train for eight hours on average. Moreover, majority of them, take weightlifters for example, suffer from permanent injuring after retirement due to excessive training. It is further contented they can hardly find a decent job after retirement because they cannot receive the proper education in their early age. Thus, the successful sports professional should receive much more salary than other professions.

However, the others argue that the great income gap between sports players and other professions will give rise to social inequity and economic recession. Take Tiger Woods for example, in 2008 the news reported that his annual income from advertisement equals all the labors’ wage in Nike’s Indonesian factories. Furthermore, compared with people who are producers in manufacturing and agriculture industries, sports stars are just consumers. The income inequity, as this argument goes, will switch labors from producing industries to sports industry. As a result, it will cause social recession due to the decrease of productivity.

In conclusion, it is fair for the stars to receive a relatively higher income considering their hard training and welfare after retirement. However, the unreasonable income gap will results serious social problems such as inequity and recession. Therefore, the sports stars should not receive incredibly higher incomes than people in the other industries.
