Essay topics:

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Learning an additional language is a good way to improve one’s job prospects in any field. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

In this day and age, more and more foreign companies invest in other countries. Therefore, knowing more languages is an advantage for all people who want to develop their work. In my point of view, learning an additional language is a good way to improve one’s job prospects in any field on account of the change to work in international firms, the ability to create new opportunities and the necessary requirements of most companies.

First and foremost, learning a language brings us a chance to work in international corporations. Foreign firms require languages and if we want to work there, they must know their own languages. Of course, speaking countries' mother tongues also creates a friendly environment and we can make a good impression with employees of other countries. For example, my friend knows Japanese and she has a chance to work in a firm in Tokyo.

Secondly, knowing additional languages can create new opportunities. Suppose your company will have important contracts with a foreign corporation next week and your boss chooses employees to negotiate. He will choose not only based on competence but also the ability of language. Take my sister for an example, she was chosen to be a frontman to contract with German companies because she is good at Germany.

Last but not least, languages become necessary to most companies. When recruiting new employees, most firms require English certificates or other equivalent foreign languages such as Toeic, Ielts, HSK or Topik. For example, Vietcombank requires 650 TOEIC or more and of course its salary and bonus is higher than other banks.

To sum up, learning an additional language is a great way to improve one’s chance in work hence you can have more chances to work in foreign firms, have new opportunities for development and language is indispensable to most companies.
