Au Co Mother Temple is a place of worship of Mother Au Co, built from Hau Le period, located on Hien Luong commune, Ha Hoa district, Phu Tho province today. Mau Co Mother Temple is a special historical and cultural construction, a symbol of patriotism and the great national unity. The image of Au Co mother giving birth to the descendant of Lac Hong of Viet Nam in a hundred egg bunch has become an immortal image living in the sentimental thoughts and minds of Vietnamese generations. Every year, not only people in the region but also tourists from all over the world come here to celebrate Au Co Temple Festival, which takes place on January 7 as "Fairy Eve".
Au Co was a daughter of King De Lai. She is very beautiful and she was a fairy descendent. At that time, Lac Long Quan who was the son of Kinh Duong Vuong and Long Nu – Long Vuong’s daughter travelled everywhere. He met Au Co. Because Au Co was so impressed with Lac Long Quan’s talent, she fell in love with him and they got married. After Lac Long Quan and Au Co lived together for a while, Au Co fell pregnant she gave birth to a pouch filled with one hundred eggs. After 7 days, each egg hatched in to one son.. One day, Lac Long Quan and Au Co decided to divide the areas for them to govern. Fifty children followed Lac Long Quan to the Coast and fifty children followed his wife to the highlands. One hundred children of Lac Long Quan and Au Co were the ancestors of Bach Viet people. The eldest son stayed in Phong Chau and became the King of Van Lang state. He took the title of Hung Vuong (Hung King). From then on, all succeeding king also took this title. Hung King was the founder of Van Lang Kingdom and Hung King dynasty were succeeded through 18 kings Mrs. Au Co and her children go everywhere to win people's hearts, teach people to cultivate rice, grow silkworms and weave silkworms. On that mile-long road, one day he came to Hien Luong, Ha Hoa district, Son Tay town. Seeing beautiful natural landscapes, wide alpine mountains, long rivers, clear blue lakes, lush grass and flowers, abundant fish and birds. The people reclaimed the land to set up hamlets, taught people to cultivate rice, and reared silkworms to weave cloth. When the farm was settled, he and his children traveled to new lands. By the time Jiangshan had acquired a relationship, the frontier was expanded, he returned to Hien Luong, where he chose to stick with his life. Legend has it that on the 25th of December of the Year of the Monkey, Mrs. Au Co and her fairies flew to heaven leaving under a multi-strip of silk frock, in which the people erected an altar of worship, everlasting smoke.
In the history of thousands of years, Mau Au temple has been ordained three times by Vietnamese state dynasties. For the first time under the reign of King Le Thanh Tong (1428-1527), the king sent the national tutor to Ha Hoa deified and granted money to people to renovate Mau Au Co temple. During the Nguyen Dynasty, in 1874, Emperor Tu Duc was ordained a Quoc Mau temple. On August 3, 1991 Mau Au Temple was granted a certificate of national historical relics by the Ministry of Culture and Information.
The main ceremony of Mau Au Temple on January 7, lasting for three days. During the festival in front of the temple yard and at the village communal house, there are many local folk games such as: robbing flags, basting, teasing, singing oval ... Especially, the custom of making lime cake from glutinous rice flour and sugarcane juice is a specialty. Delicious delicacies of Ha Hoa region.
For the other holidays in the year, though not as exciting and bustling as the three festivals in early January above, it still takes place very solemnly, sacredly and is crowded with locals and tourists from all over the world. the country and the overseas Vietnamese pilgrimage abroad to celebrate Au Co Mother's Day.
