Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? High schools should allow students to study the courses that students want to study. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
Each person has special habits in studying. People are not completely same; they have distinct characteristic and personality. There are a lot of differences among students, some students probably are interested in certain courses, and on the other hand maybe some students detest those courses. Some people has always the idea of having one strategy in teaching, they believe we should follow traditional methods. In contrast, the majority of people, including me, like to give freedom to students in choosing their own strategy in studying the courses. Seemingly, I am certainly positive with this statement. Because it offers plenty of advantages to students, benefits such as following their interested subject, in addition, this action makes adolescence responsible against their decisions.
Main reason that motivates me to support this idea is persuading the students to follow their interested subjects. People are different from each other, they have definitely different interests. Doubtless, Studying favorite subjects is a unique opportunity for each student. In this condition, youth can find their talents and show-off their best. For example, I remember, when I was studying in High school, we have some optional courses. Those courses had created the great opportunity to students to show what talent they have. As I remember, one of my friends, having weakness in some general courses, registered in one of the optional courses which was computer programming. While studying this course, we found out he is one f the best programmers in the High school. After that happening, our principal decided to respect to students idea and increase the variety of optional courses. Therefore, I think High schools must allow students to choose their favorite courses.
Second reason is improving the feel of responsibility against decisions among students. Although, students study a variety of subjects in school and gain knowledge, most of students have struggle carrying the burden of responsibility of their decisions. Studying a course which is chosen by themselves of students motivates them to carry the burden of doing best on that lesson and supporting their decisions. For instance, when I was studying in High school five years ago, I had a friend, who was very weak in mathematics. Owing to, he disliked mathematics courses, but, due to a simple mistake he chose a project that deal with mathematics as an assignment. Consequently, he accepted his responsibility and tried to do his best. After a while he told me, he was in a struggle in doing assignment but this action had helped him to gain experience against accepting a responsibility of making decisions. Thus, I believe offering autonomy to students in school to choosing a course for studying, is a good chance to help students to be a responsible person.
In my opinion High schools must allow students to study their interested subjects. Because this works, not only motivate them to follow their interested and show their talents but also will help them to be a responsible person. Therefore, I am convinced that, each student has a right to choose his favorite courses and school's principle must support this action.
