According to the information given, the reading passage describes about certain type of amnesia called as childhood amnesia, which is referred by Freud. In the lecture, the professor explains about the causes of childhood amnesia.
In the reading passage, it has been mentioned that Freud has conducted many studies to learn about amnesia. The results of these studies states that people are not able to remind the events that have been taken place at the age of three to five years of their lives. Various experiments have been done on this case, but there are some difficulties. First,it is not easy to ask people whether they remember any events from first five years of their lives. Secondly, there is no way to check whether these events happened exactly or not. Nonetheless, even by solving problems people are not still tend to remind the events.
In the lecture, the professor mentions the causes of this case and states that there is no indeed particular cause for childhood amnesia up to now. However, there is a general idea accepted universally. The idea represents that there is a vast difference between young children and adults in coding the experiences. In fact, the young children code their experiences in a random way without any organization, where as the adults code their experiences in an organized way that lasts for long and could be remembered for long period of time. Moreover, the professor explains that why young people memorize the events in a random way? This is because there is a hippo campus a part of the brain, which helps us to organize and consolidate the events. Since, this part is not mature enough at the age between 2 to 3 years, the events cannot be consolidated, organized and memorized.
